Pirates top prospect Pedro Alvarez went 3-4 and was a triple short of the cycle in his first professional game. After a ground out in the 1st inning, Alvarez proceeded to single, homer, double and collect 4 RBI's in his next 3 plate appearances to lead Class A Lynchburg to a win in their season opener.
- Anyone else hoping for a September call-up to get his feet wet, then a mid may call-up in 2010. It is a definite possibility
