What a game. Maholm was unreal as expected-- Should have had at least 15 W's last year if not for the league leading 9 leads the bullpen blew for him. Left too many runners on base early, i think like 7 through 3 innings and it came back to hurt in the bottom of the 3rd when Andy LaRoche forgets that he just had a month to work on that exact play in Florida.. probably had snow in his eye.. twice. Gave up a few but didnt get killed with the big inning, could have been a lot worse if one of those ropes headed for a gap. Double play saves our ass.
Got a couple in the 6th, to tie it up but Maholm buzz-killed with a really bad base running mistake that would have given McLouth an opportunity with runners on 2nd and 3rd.
The 8th was bad from the 1st pitch to Ludwick, Homer- Pop Out- Walk; Captain America comes in relief and right away gives up a single- Sac fly which should have never happened except Brandon Moss had a throw that would piss off a high school coach-- (A 4 bouncer. From about 150 feet. Really Brandon.. wow)
Then the 9th, a first pitch Sanchez double immediately puts the tying run at the plate for the heart of our order.-- McLouth K's and Doumit grounded out. LaRoche awakens from his hibernation a month beore usual and decides to get a cluth hit.-- 4-3. Hinske Doubles and Moss gets plunked to load the bases for Flash. Double to the wall scores 3.
Capps closes it out without much trouble.
